By Mark Scott, executive director of Market MontGOmery Chamber & Tourism • The judges have spoken: The winning name for the $700 hand-blown glass pumpkin is “Sasquash,” as submitted by Denise C. Saunders. She wins a free specialty drink at Speckled Paw on Main Street in Mt. Gilead.

The drawing to win “Sasquash” will be tonight. Get the latest news on  Facebook.

The name makes sense. The pumpkin is a member of the squash family; this region has legendary ties to Sasquatch; and the glass pumpkin is HUGE, weighing in at 17.5 pounds. That was enough to give Denise’s entry a winning boost.

Just in case you don’t win it, you can visit the “Pumpkin Patch” at STARworks this Saturday where approximately 3,000 hand-blown glass pumpkins of all shapes, colors and sizes will be on display and for sale. Arrive early to see the vast array before many are sold.
