By Mark Scott, executive director of Market MontGOmery Chamber & Tourism • The Ten Days of Uwharrie, which is happening all over Montgomery County Oct. 19-28, is such a big deal that it’s been designated North Carolina’s official outdoor festival for 2018.

So exactly what is this festival going to include? Will it be free? Is it too late to sign up  to host an event? Do they need volunteers?

The answers to those questions and more will be answered at 6 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday, Aug. 16) at a summit meeting at Troy Town Hall on Main Street.

Committee members will give a brief presentation about everything the festival encompasses, including road bike events, mountain bike events, a 100-mile run through the Uwharries, fun walks/runs with mayors, paddling events, fishing events, horseback riding events, gold-panning demonstrations, a night under the stars at Town Creek Indian Mound, music concerts, a BBQ cookoff, cornhole tournaments, an off-road vehicle jamboree, remote control off-road vehicle competitions, equipment demonstrations from REI and more.

This event that will bring a strong statewide focus to Montgomery County and the Uwharrie region. It’s an opportunity for us to come together and show the state that we are worthy of being promoted like the beaches or mountains. Just as the popularity of golf helped Pinehurst and Moore County prosper, outdoor recreation enthusiasts are currently one of the fastest growing segments of the population and we can capture that audience. Please attend tomorrow and see what it’s all about!
