By Mark Scott, executive director of Market MontGOmery Chamber & Tourism • In 1971, Marvin Gaye asked, “What’s going on?” In 1992, 4 Non Blondes asked, “What’s up?” Music lyrics often reflect the times and almost all the time people like to be informed.
With so much seemingly always going on in this hotbed of outdoor recreation and culture of Montgomery County, it is as important as ever to know what’s going on.
Montgomery County has LONG had many things going on, but not always the best mechanisms for letting people know. The Montgomery Herald does a great job as a community weekly newspaper, but we are a difficult county to serve as some parts gravitate toward Albemarle, some toward Moore County, some toward Denton and Davidson County, while some identify with Asheboro and Randolph County and some still hold tight to the larger cities farther away like Charlotte and Greensboro. Even our radio listening and television watching is fragmented.
But never fear, Under Dog is here … or should we say, the Speckled Paw is here to save the day. (Okay, if you recall that reference, you are a child of the ’60s and ’70s!)
The Speckled Paw has been kind enough to allow Market MontGOmery Chamber & Tourism (MM for short) to use this slice of cyberspace to share some news of what’s going on in MoCo with a slight focus on things closer to Mt. Gilead … and we appreciate it. Watch this column for some updates.
Meanwhile, we are working to get confirmation on the Lake Tillery water draw-down from Duke Energy. We are hearing six to eight feet beginning the second week of October through early November. Updates on that and this year’s recreational water release dates from the Tillery Dam are coming soon.
