Barista Emily Granholm is on a quest to spread the word about the amazing businesses located in Wadesboro. This week she interviews John Irving, owner of JB Fitness.

Q. What’s your philosophy of personal training?

A. The biggest key is accountability to structured personalized training.

Q. When did you start JB Fitness? What made you want to open a gym?

A. I purchased the gym in May 2017. I previously worked there under different management. I saw the potential for providing a much-needed facility for the town and county.

Q. How many members does your gym have?

A. We have enrolled over 300 members but the numbers vary from season to season.

Q. What’s the average age of your members?

A. We serve people from 15-80.

Q. What do you feel is the biggest issue facing people today regarding fitness?

A. One of the greatest concerns is attitude.

Q. What’s been the most rewarding experience in owning a gym?

A. Watching people reach weight goals and health goals.

Q. If you could tell people one thing, or want them to know about the gym, what would you tell them?

A. That NOBODY is ever judged!

Q. Anything else you’d like to tell us? Funny story?

A. We think we have a ghost LOL. Happy Halloween!

Barista Emily says: JB Fitness provides a welcoming environment with bright colors and a floor full of exercise equipment with a side room to take different classes like yoga, dance, strength training, etc. I noticed how many different people were there when I visited. (I also teach dance classes there on Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m.) It’s a fun gym with good energy and supportive professionals available to help you meet your fitness goals. Stop by and say hi to John, get your workout in and then swing by the Speckled Paw to rejuvenate with a protein smoothie and an energy bite.
