Friends In Focus awarded college scholarships this year to the following Montgomery County high school seniors: 

Julius Wilson received the Susie Leake Little Scholarship for $1,000. Julius ranked 18th in his class at West Montgomery High School with a weighted GPA of 3.7414. A student/athlete who displays amazing leadership, he plans to attend UNC-Pembroke this fall.

Indya Douglas received a Friends In Focus Excellence Scholarship for $500. An A-B honor roll student, this young woman performed well at East Montgomery High School, with a weighted GPA of 3.9429. Indya will attend Winston Salem State University this fall.

Brianna Edwards received the Godfrey Filmore Bruton Scholarship for $500. A determined scholar at West Montgomery High School, Brianna had a weighted GPA of 3.1207. This fall, she will attend North Carolina A&T University. 

Cindy Vargas-Gonzalez received a Friends In Focus Excellence Scholarship for $500. A motivated scholar who performed extremely well at East Montgomery High School with a weighted GPA of 4.1625, Cindy will attend Meredith College this fall.

Sidney Grant received a Friends In Focus Excellence Scholarship for $500. In addition to her high school diploma from East Montgomery High School, Sidney received an associate’s degree in arts from Montgomery Community College. She will attend Appalachian State University this fall.

Ny’Asia Shepherd received the Dora Lee Gaines Harris Scholarship for $500. As a volunteer with Friends In Focus, Ny’Asia has shown her commitment to community service. This fall, the West Montgomery High School graduate plans to attend Fayetteville State University and study nursing.

Mercede Singthong received the Janie Litaker Ingram Scholarship for $500. Mercede, an outstanding student at West Montgomery High School, is described as a student leader with a weighted GPA of 3.4167. She plans to attend UNC-Greensboro this fall. 

Johanna Vasquez-Rodriquez received a Friends In Focus Excellence Scholarship for $500. A determined and successful scholar at East Montgomery High School ranked fifth in her class with a weighted GPA of 4.3382, Johanna plans to attend UNC-Greensboro in the fall. 

Ke’Aja Vinson-Williams received the Novella Turner LeGrand Scholarship for $500. Ke’Aja, a student athlete at West Montgomery High School, has shown commitment to hard work. With a goal of being a college graduate and a GPA of 3.3793, she will attend East Carolina University this fall and plans to major in nursing.

Alondra Hernandez received a Friends In Focus Excellence Scholarship for $250. With a weighted GPA of 3.7500, this Honor Roll, multi-sport student/athlete and community service leader performed well at East Montgomery High School and Montgomery Community College. This fall, she plans to attend Salem College.

Tykalia Martin received a Friends In Focus Excellence Scholarship for $250. This enterprising and determined West Montgomery High School graduate seeks a career in nursing. This fall, she plans to attend Fayetteville State University.
