Editor’s note: Jeff and Linda Cathcart recently bought the old Pee Dee Presbyterian Church outside Mt. Gilead and are converting it into their home. Through weekly installments, they’re updating Speckled Paw readers on their progress; below is the sixth and final part of the series. Here are the previous articles: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6.

Of the last sayings of Jesus on the cross, none is more important or more poignant than, “It is finished.” Found only in the Gospel of John, the Greek word translated “it is finished” is tetelestai, an accounting term that means “paid in full.” When Jesus uttered those words, He was declaring the debt for sin, owed by mankind (not Jesus) to His Father, was wiped away completely and forever. Amen! Thank you, Jesus, for paying it all for us!

And likewise, so it goes with our journey from church to home – it is finished. The old Pee Dee Church has been renewed. We are so very thankful to our almighty Father in heaven for allowing us the honor of renovating His house and making it our home, in just six weeks! We’d also like to take this opportunity to thank those who we believe were sent by God to put His plan into action – our family and friends and those men and women who put hands and feet to God’s direction to make it all happen:  Donald Howell, Quality Contracting (general contractor and overseer); Jeremy Dunn, Dunn Rite Construction (carpenter and craftsmen) with assistance from Kevin Rushing and Alex Aviles; James Lamb, Lamb & Sons Painting (all interior and exterior painting) with assistance from John Lamb, Mike Horne, Dylan Sweat and Ally Sweat; Stanley Poole, Poole’s Plumbing & Trenching (all plumbing and fixtures) with assistance from John Poole and Justin Garner; Steve Singleton, Asheboro Alarm & Electric (all electrical) with assistance from Bradly Singleton, Jerry Harlow and Andrew Deaton; Carl Burrow, Burrow’s Landscaping and Lawn Maintenance (all landscaping) with assistance from David Grey, Travis Freeman and Brennen Freeman; Keith Housley, Housley’s Pressure Washing (all exterior pressure washing); Curtis Greenwell, Greenwell Heating & Cooling (all HVAC repairs and service) with assistance from Zach Cranford, Andres Barrera and Victor Urquiza; Caleb Shepard, CS Roofing (roof shingles and repairs on the fellowship hall) with assistance from Wesley Martin, Wesley Martin Jr., Aaron Martin and Matthew Sheffield; David Cregar, Colonial LP Gas (new propane tank and utilities connection) with assistance from Brian Lassister, Anthony Thompson, Mark Gunter and Kameron Batten; B&B Exterminators; CPI Security; and Don’s Locksmith of Rockingham. If you’re ever in need of any of these services, we strongly recommend you consider these folks – they will treat you right.

As these workers finished their work, they left us with, “If we need to return to make any adjustments or if you ever need us in the future, just call and we’ll be there for you.” That’s the way God’s people do one another; that’s the way God’s people love their neighbors. And we say to them, “Thank you, good and faithful servants, and if we can ever be of service to you, please call on us; may the Lord bless you and keep you; may the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; may the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.”

And finally, thanks to you, Paw readers, for taking this journey with us from church to home and for your kind words of love and encouragement along the way. Please see the before and after pictures in this issue of the Speckled Paw Times to see how God is being glorified and magnified in His house.

We will share one more round of pictures once we get moved in.  We welcome all to visit with us at our Pee Dee Church home and sign our guest book. Just send an email to jcathcart@freedomwon.org to arrange a time for a visit. Grace and peace be with you all.
