By Mark Scott, executive director of Market MontGOmery Chamber & Tourism • 10 Days of Uwharrie: The Official North Carolina Outdoor Festival will kick off at 4 p.m. Friday with a concert that will last into the night at Lilly’s Bridge Marina.

The 10 Days of Uwharrie is, of course, the umbrella name for the countywide festival that will celebrate various outdoor recreational activities that normally happen in the Uwharrie region, especially around the lakes and forest. A volunteer festival committee encouraged towns, businesses and organizations to hold as many of their events as possible between Oct. 19-28.

Activities include a Uwharrie “thru hike,” 100 miles of Uwharrie running event, crappie fishing tournament, adventure camp, star-gazing and camping out at Town Creek Indian Mound, an off-road jamboree, gold-panning exhibition, mayors’ walks, kayak/canoe paddling events, multiple music concerts, food trucks, a cornhole tournament, Bigfoot brisket cook-off, parade of Christmas trees, cruise-in, Bigfoot adventure bike race, heritage crafts, drone demonstrations and much more, ending with the world champion fly ball dog team doing a demonstration. Friday’s concert starts at 4 p.m. with music by Deeper Shade of Blue followed by Nu Blu at 6 p.m. and culminating with the ever-popular Loaded Dice Band from 8-10 p.m. Thirsty Souls Brewery will have a tap trailer on site. River Wild restaurant will be open all day and Lilly’s Bridge Marina will have apparel and merchandise on sale. Chamber members, event hosts and festival sponsors can set up booths for free at the marina on Friday; cost is $25 for others. For more information, call John Shaw at (704) 985-4496.
