By Mark Scott, executive director of Market MontGOmery Chamber & Tourism • Leadership Montgomery is a program started by the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce 25 years ago that is now put on jointly by the chamber and Montgomery Community College. It’s a program of discovery committed to the advancement of Montgomery County through the development of its most important resource: its leaders.

Being the 25th anniversary of the program, you can imagine the dozens and dozens of leaders who have gone through this program. The alumni list is a veritable who’s who of our active citizens. We plan this year’s May graduation to also be a reunion of past graduates over those two-and-a-half decades. We don’t mind sharing the stage because of the kinship current graduates feel with past graduates.

The program consists of seven meeting days that last from about 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., typically the first Thursday of each month from September through April. Each day has a designation: orientation; business & industry day (visiting some of our great businesses and getting behind-the-scenes tours); history adventure day (learning about Montgomery’s recent history and much earlier history with visits to key places); adventures in undiscovered places day (exploring parts of the county you always wanted to visit, but never took the time); agriculture day (with a fantastic meal of local products); and much more.

Cost is $175 and some scholarships are available to cover partial cost if necessary. The scholarship application deadline is Sept. 1. Lunch and transportation are provided each session.

We’re seeking men and women of all ages who have achieved or are working to achieve leadership positions within the community or their profession.

Enrollment is limited to 25 people. Call Savannah Heath or Jessica Hamilton at MCC (910) 898-9682 to reserve your spot.
