From press releases • Tillery Charter Academy, Montgomery County’s new charter school, seeks the public’s help in designing the school’s tiger cub mascot. The winner will receive a $100 VISA gift card.

Officials at the free K-5 public charter school have chosen three core values: courage, respect and spirit of adventure. The school colors are navy blue and orange.

Local artists and community members are invited to submit their designs for the mascot. The TCA board will review the entries and select three of them to present to the community for a final vote. The mascot design that receives the most votes will be incorporated into the new school’s logo.

Submit entries and contact information to tillerycharteracademy@gmail.com or Tillery Charter Academy, 191 Memory Lane, Mt. Gilead, N.C., 27306. Submissions will be accepted through July 15.

Tillery Charter Academy received its final approval from the state Board of Education in May. The academy plans to open in August 2019 at 204 Lambert Road in Biscoe.

It will initially serve grades K-2, then expand a grade each year. The academy will provide students with a classical approach utilizing core knowledge, Saxon math and Shurley English.

Chrissy Fisher, the academy’s board chair, said, “We are excited to have laid the foundation for the first charter school located in Montgomery County. Tillery Charter Academy will give parents and students a unique opportunity to choose a school with a rigorous curriculum that also encompasses character education.”
