By Mark Scott, executive director of Market MontGOmery Chamber & Tourism • Do you long for the simple days of yesteryear? Do you miss being out amongst the people, laughing, being entertained, hearing good music, knowing you are in a safe, family-friendly environment and eating food while simultaneously supporting a local charity?

If you do, you’re not alone. That’s why two events this weekend will be so well attended.

Friday night the Farm@Uwharrie, located diagonally across from the Eldorado Outpost on Hwy. 109, will host a festival that includes a demolition derby, figure-eight car races and, to cap off the evening, fireworks. There will also be bouncy houses, water balloons, helium balloons, a bubble fan and more for children, plus music and line dancing.

Food options will be provided by the West Montgomery Lions Club, Mt. Carmel Church, Destination Imagination and Hudson Food Court.

Gates open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults; $5 for children younger than 12; free for children younger than 5; with a $5 military discount with I.D. Advance tickets can be purchased at any Montgomery Insurance Office for a $3 discount.

Saturday is TroyFest, starting at 10 a.m. with a parade and including Sir Purr, the TopCats and Purrcussion of the Carolina Panthers as well as Shelby Rae Moore, The Entertainers and music from WMTG radio and Uwharrie Mountain Radio. A variety of free events are scheduled throughout the day, ending with a fireworks display at 9:15 p.m.
