By Mark Scott, executive director of Market MontGOmery Chamber & Tourism • Weather reports tell us we are going to get lots of rain from Hurricane Florence at the very least and at the most we could get heavy, damaging winds and catastrophic flooding. With those outcomes there will be impassable roads, power outages, downed trees and more.

Market MontGOmery Chamber & Tourism has communicated with Montgomery County Sheriff Chris Watkins and is preparing to be your center of local information because of our following of nearly 5,000 on our Facebook page. Please be prepared by “following” this Facebook page immediately so you can receive updates through the storm.

You may not have electricity or television, but if you have a Halo-type device to keep your smart phone charged, or a car charger, you can continue to check our page for information. If you have a battery-operated radio, please make sure you have working batteries to use that as well to listen to local radio stations.

Sheriff Watkins and his staff will be busy doing their jobs, but they will communicate with us, so we can relay information to you on our Facebook page.

Do not go out looking for danger, but if you know a road is flooded, trees are blocking a roadway, power lines are down, etc., post it to our page or let us know so we can keep people informed.

If necessary following the storm, if you know of organized relief efforts or people in our area in need of help, please message us or post as appropriate.

Remember, many people are hurt in rescue efforts in flood waters or from debris. Be cautious about how you help.
